“ | This time for sure, a humanoid Neighbor has appeared!! | ” |
–Makoto Chano about Lamvanein, in Aftokrator.[1] |
Makoto Chano (茶野 真, Chano Makoto ?) is a B-Rank Gunner from Border and the Leader of Chano Unit.
Appearance
Chano is very androgynous, and also rather tall. He has chin-length hair, which could be longer, as it's usually covered by a beanie.
When Chano is in trigger mode, he wears a jacket which folds over itself on the left side, and has two groups of four buttons, and stripes on the ends of the sleeves, like the rest of Chano unit.
Personality
In the information page it is stated that Chano is brave and cares about his teammates; when he met an unknown neighbor, he quickly responded by reporting it and attacking them.[1] Chano also seems to come to conclusions very quickly, as he immediately attacked Yūma after realizing he was a humanoid Neighbor.[3]
Gender
In Chano Unit's mini profile in volume 7, Ashihara reveals in his character notes that Chano was supposed to be a crossdressing girl, but he decided to ignore it since it seems troublesome,[4] but it is unknown whether that means Chano is supposed to be a girl or a boy.
Plot
History
Chano joined Border about 1 year before Border Member Official Enlistment Day.[5]
Large-Scale Invasion Arc
Chano and Fujisawa attack Yūma after believing he was an enemy. They stopped, though, after Arashiyama informed them Yūma was indeed an ally. Later, the two attack Lamvanein, Chano exclaiming that they got it right this time.[1]

Trivia
- "Makoto" is an unisex name (meaning it can be used for both genders) which, when written with the kanji 真, means "true, pure, genuine". "Chano" (茶野 ?) means "tea field".
- Chano likes Nasi goreng, collecting hats, and making badges (which means Chano probably made his own and Fujisawa's).
