Kuruma is the leader and chief tactician of his unit, although strategies are workshopped with all members present.[1] His kindness and consideration are known to have earned him the complete loyalty of his teammates.[2] In battle his role is to support Kō Murakami from mid-range[3] or by suppressing other Gunners,[4] but the two recently developed a new formation that sees Kuruma moving right behind Murakami and switching to a Full Attack stance while the Attacker defends him.[5] The effectiveness of this tactic in open areas[6] is such that it managed to turn the tables on Masato Kageura and Hiro Kitazoe,[7] even though the two are slightly[8] and notably[9] more powerful than Murakami and Kuruma respectively.

When separated from Murakami, Kuruma will ideally team up with Taichi Betsuyaku so the two can combine their firepower and defenses[10] to restrain the opponent and wait for an opening.[2] However, even by fighting alongside the Sniper Kuruma is still severely outmatched by more skilled ranged fighters such as Rei Nasu,[11] whom however he managed to critically injure right before his own defeat through a sneak attack.[12]

TriggerEdit

Type: White trion Normal Asteroid
Kuruma Asteroid2
Classification: GU Gunner
Asteroid is Kuruma's primary offensive Trigger. He channels it through an assault rifle, which grants him a high rate of fire and is ideal for fighting at mid-range. His fighting style is very conservative and he almost always fire from behind a Shield, regardless of whether he is on his own or coordinating with his allies. Recently, he added a second rifle to his Trigger set so he can fire with both at once while Murakami protects him, switching as needed between whittling down his enemies with Asteroid[13] and circumvent obstacles with Hound.[14] Kuruma is first seen using Asteroid in Chapter 60 (Episode 27 in the anime).

Classification: DE Defense
Kuruma is almost always seen firing from behind a Shield while wielding only one rifle, with the exception of when he fights alongside Betsuyaku. In this case, the two combine their Shields to protect themselves from all directions without making their defense too thin.[10] He has also cast it from afar to protect an ally,[15] also overlapping his Full Guard with those of other agents.[16] Kuruma is first seen using Shield in Chapter 60 (Episode 27 in the anime).

Type: White trion Normal Hound
Kuruma Hound anime
Classification: GU Gunner
Kuruma's secondary bullet type is Hound. He is adept at circumventing obstacles by firing upward and angling the bullets so they will rain down on an unsuspecting opponent from above. To ensure the enemy will not move, he can restrain them with Asteroid.[17] After adding a second assault rifle to his arsenal he became able to combine the two to strike the enemy from the side while simultaneously weakening their Shield with Asteroid. Alternatively, he can fire Hound through both rifles at the same time and point them in two different directions to catch the opponent in a pincer attack[18] that is very difficult to dodge or parry,[19] provided the environment allows for it.[6] Kuruma is first using Hound in Chapter 102 (Episode 46 in the anime).
